Match Report vs Dart 1 25/9/21
It was our first match back of the season (and after a whole year off!) Newton players were being struck down by illness left right and centre!
At the start of the day Newton had a strong team of 11, however 30 minutes before the match kicked off we were down to 9! Undeterred we faced up to a strong Dart 1s team knowing it was going to be tough match. Every player began the match ready to battle and to try and keep Dart out as much as we could. From the start Newton's defence faced an onslaught of attack but they remained firm and rebuffed them again again, Dart were eventually able to break the deadlock shortly before half time with a well worked short corner, meaning we went into the break 1-0 down.
After a quick drinks break and a powered up by some Haribo, Newton went out to fight again!
Once again the defence battled hard against Darts attack and once again they kept them at bay, sending the ball up the pitch enabling us to launch our own attacks in the second half. The team spirit was incredible with everyone encouraging each other and willing each of us to keep going, the game ended 2-0 to Dart but what a result! Each and every player out there did the team proud and as a result the whole team won player of the match. If we can achieve that with 9 players just think what we can do with 11, an exciting start to the season! Lets see what happens in the weekends ahead...
